The brand that invented the pellet grill — easy, app-connected smoking, with build and warranty that trail rivals

Selectively Worth It
Founded

Country
United States
Warranty
Typically a short 3-year limited warranty on its mainstream grills — notably below the 6-year-plus coverage from rivals like Recteq, and even Traeger’s own pricier lines.
Support
365-day customer support and a deep accessory and parts ecosystem; common failure points (auger jams, RTD-probe and controller faults) are well-documented, and a replacement controller can run a sizable fraction of the grill’s cost.

Overview

Traeger, founded in 1985, invented the wood-pellet grill and remains the category’s most recognized name, synonymous with set-and-forget, WiFi-app smoking. Its grills are the easy on-ramp to barbecue — automatic pellet feeding, PID temperature control, and a polished app. The knocks are hardware: most models use powder-coated steel rather than stainless, top out around 450–500°F (limiting searing), and carry shorter warranties than value rivals.

Is it worth it?

Traeger is worth it for beginners who prize the easiest, best-app pellet experience and will cook mostly low-and-slow. Buyers who want stainless build, higher sear temps, or a longer warranty get more from Recteq for similar money.
