The verdict

This is the great kamado debate, and both are lifetime ceramic cookers that grill, smoke, bake, and sear superbly. The Kamado Joe Classic III wins on engineering and what’s in the box: a 3-tier Divide & Conquer system, a SloRoller smoking insert, a Kontrol Tower vent, a crack-resistant multi-panel firebox, and a cart and accessories all included for around $2,199. The Big Green Egg Large is the icon — unmatched community, the largest accessory ecosystem, and a lower egg-only entry price (around $1,249) — but its single-piece interior has no built-in multi-level system, and you’ll add a heat deflector and a stand to actually use it, narrowing the price gap. Choose the Kamado Joe if you want the most capable, most complete kamado without piecing it together; choose the Big Green Egg for the lower start, the ecosystem, and the community. We give the edge to the Kamado Joe on features-per-dollar once both are equipped.
