Quick Winner: WalkingPad Z1

Incline against everyday usability: the DeerRun adds motorized incline nothing else matches at the price, but the WalkingPad Z1 is the better desk-work pad and wins for most buyers.

The verdict

Two budget-to-mid pads, one buyer, two different theories of the job. The DeerRun Z10 (about $299, often $239) holds the headline feature: automatic 0 to 9 percent incline across 12 levels, unmatched at the price, plus a higher 300 lb capacity. For actual desk work it stumbles twice: the 35 inch deck is the shortest in the category and cramps anyone over about 5 foot 8, and it beeps loudly at startup and on every speed change with no mute, which disqualifies it for open-plan offices and calls. The WalkingPad Z1 ($329) answers with a longer 47 inch deck, a built-in display, FootSense auto-speed, and quiet, beep-free operation. For walking while you work, especially in a shared space, the Z1 is the better machine and the clear pick. Choose the DeerRun only if incline is your specific priority and the pad will live in a private room where the beep and the short deck cost you nothing.
