The verdict

Sonos Move 2 vs Roam 2 comes down to which question you are asking, so if you are stuck on which to buy, start with where the speaker will spend its life. The Move 2 is simply the better speaker: true stereo from one cabinet, far more bass, up to 24 hours of battery, and the muscle to fill a patio, at a persistent $399 sale price ($449 list) and a stay-where-you-put-it 6.6 pounds. The Roam 2 is the one that leaves the house: under a pound, IP67 submersible, about $179, and happy to flip from home Wi-Fi to Bluetooth anywhere, but it is mono with roughly 10 hours of battery, a companion rather than a headliner. Backyard speaker that occasionally moves: Move 2. Travel speaker that occasionally anchors a small room: Roam 2. Many Sonos households eventually own both, which is Sonos's plan working as intended.
