Best Overall Pizza Oven

Overall score based on 7 weighted metrics.

The Ooni Karu 2 Pro is the multi-fuel pizza oven we would point most people to. It hits 950°F, cooks a 16-inch pizza, and adds genuinely useful smart features — a larger ClearView door, a Bluetooth temperature hub, and a meat probe — over the discontinued Karu 16. In head-to-head testing it produced pizza on par with ovens costing far more; the main caveats are that the gas burner is a ~$140 add-on and wood firing has a learning curve.

Performance

The Karu 2 Pro matches the best for pure pizza: 950°F, a 16-inch cooking surface, and 60-second Neapolitan results. In a head-to-head, Homes & Gardens found it produced slightly better pizza than the far more expensive Gozney Dome. The Bluetooth temperature hub and meat probe make heat management and roasting easier than on the Karu 16, though sustaining wood or charcoal heat still takes practice.

Build Quality

Powder-coated steel, dense insulation, and the larger ClearView glass door give it a premium, all-weather feel. It is the proven Karu architecture, refined — solid rather than commercial-grade, and far lighter (63 lbs) than the tank-like Gozney Dome.

Value Assessment

At $799 the Karu 2 Pro is strong value for a flagship multi-fuel oven, but the gas burner is a ~$140 extra to unlock full multi-fuel use, bringing the realistic cost closer to $940. Even so, it undercuts the Gozney Dome by well over a thousand dollars for comparable pizza.

Who Should Buy It

Most buyers who want one oven that does it all — wood, charcoal, or gas — with 16-inch capacity and modern conveniences, without paying flagship-luxury prices.

Who Should Skip It

Gas-only cooks who never want wood (a Koda is cheaper), and anyone who wants commercial-grade build and capacity regardless of cost (the Gozney Dome).

Final Recommendation

The Ooni Karu 2 Pro is our best-overall pizza oven: near-top performance, true multi-fuel flexibility, and smart features at a price most enthusiasts can justify. Budget for the gas burner if you want the full experience — then it is the one to buy.
