We Read Every 1-Star Review of Our Highest Scored Products
Updated July 2026
We spent days hunting for people who hate our highest-rated products, and one product nearly broke the experiment. First, the sourcing, because the sourcing is the story: Amazon and Reddit wall off scrapers, so the hunt ran through the channels that stay open. That means Blind (the anonymous tech worker forum), the Better Business Bureau, ComplaintsBoard, PissedConsumer, and retailer review pages. Every quote below is verbatim and attributed to where we found it. Then we sorted the anger into three piles: real flaws we already flagged in our own reviews, wrong product for that buyer, and delivery-day disasters that indict a shipping carton rather than a product. Six products went under the microscope: four scored 9.0 or better, and two hold best-overall crowns in their categories. Five of them produced the expected mix of piles. The sixth, the Concept2 RowErg, produced almost nothing, and the harshest sentence we could locate about it was hiding inside a five star review. We will get to that.

Herman Miller Aeron
9.0
Most herman miller aeron complaints land in the wrong-chair pile. On Blind, one poster admitted "I have the Aeron and bought it new. I honestly don't get what's the big deal... I still get back pain." Another: "No. Spend that money and go join a yoga club. Herman Miller is trash and just very clever marketing". A third sold up: "I don't like the Aeron personally. I ended up selling mine and getting a steel case leap for 600 or so." (Our scoring puts the Leap V2 a tenth behind the Aeron.) The realest entry: a March 2026 BBB complaint over stalled Aeron Remastered warranty service awaiting MillerKnoll approval.
For vitamix problems, ComplaintsBoard and PissedConsumer do the heavy lifting. Only one complaint in the pile names the A3500, a delivery gripe ComplaintsBoard truncates mid-sentence: "I paid the business $671.68 for a A3500 blender with a stainless steel container. But guess wh". The site cuts it off there. Everything else comes from Vitamix owners with unspecified models: "Three months after using it my jar started leaking then cracked!" on ComplaintsBoard, and, spelling as posted, "the blenders moter isnt working and the blender has only been bought for three months" on PissedConsumer. Both are three-month failures on a machine with a 10-year full warranty, exactly the pile that warranty exists for.
Does the solo stove rust? An Amazon reviewer, caught via search snippet: "Yes, it does rust. Mine rusted within 6 weeks in the summer." Flagged-flaws pile: our review lists rust risk in damp or coastal climates and tells you to buy the cover. The wrong-buyer pile stars 1-star BBB reviewer Dave B: "Solo stove is NOT flameless and still has the smell of a camp fire! ... Waste of money." The claim is smokeless once hot. Nobody said flameless. It is a fire pit. And the delivery pile, from PissedConsumer in January 2025: "I received a Christmas gift with a big dent on the side due to extremely poor packaging".
The Uplift pile is small and specific. The one quotable entry, a 1-star BBB review by Reid H, April 2026: "The desk arrived with both cable management holes covered by the leg assemblies and the cable management tray doesn't fit due to the under-desk frame." File that somewhere between delivery-day disaster and design annoyance. The scarier material, BBB complaints against Uplift Desk describing a collapse and erratic movement, we are deliberately not quoting, because neither is confirmed to involve the V2 at all. Hold all of it beside the 15-year warranty on frame, motors, and electronics, the longest in the class and a big reason the V2 scores 9.0.
Nearly every angry Ooni customer we found was mad at the company, not the oven. The BBB complaints are company-level, so we frame them that way: one 1-star reviewer wrote "I received a defective product and was lied to repetitively about the replacement date." Slow replacements and service friction are the recurring theme among Ooni customers on that page. What nobody in the pile was complaining about: the pizza. The flaws our own review flagged, a gas burner that costs about $140 extra and a real wood-firing learning curve, barely register in the 1-star channels. The rare case where the real-flaws pile stays quiet and the service pile fills up.
We failed. We went looking for Concept2 haters on the BBB (zero negative reviews), ConsumerAffairs (zero), and retailer review pages (skewing 4 to 5 stars), and nearly whiffed. The harshest on-theme sentence the hunt located was inside a FIVE star Rogue Fitness review, from Shannen G: "It is louder than I was expecting, though I don't have personal experience with rowers, so it was just a surprise". That is the whole complaint. The mild recurring themes, fan noise and seat comfort on long sessions, are already in our cons list. A $990 machine, a 9.3 score, no subscription, no locatable haters. The Editor's Choice survives contact with the internet.
What are the most common Herman Miller Aeron complaints?
Sorted honestly: the firm mesh and hard front seat edge (a fit issue our review already flags), the price, and buyers who expected a $1,795 chair to cure back pain on its own. The Blind threads read as wrong-chair complaints more than defect reports. The one real service complaint we found involved warranty-approval delays on an Aeron Remastered, which matters precisely because the 12-year all-parts-and-labor warranty is a core part of what you are paying for.
Does the Solo Stove rust?
It can. An Amazon reviewer we found via search snippet reported rust within 6 weeks over a summer, and rust risk in damp or coastal climates is already a con in our own review. Rust is the single most recurring Solo Stove complaint in the channels we searched. The fix is boring: store it dry and buy the cover, which, yes, costs extra.
Are Vitamix problems common?
Not by the standards of this experiment. The failures we located, a jar that leaked then cracked and a motor dead at three months, came from Vitamix owners with unspecified models, and both failure types sit inside the 10-year full warranty that is half the reason the Ascent A3500 scores 9.0. The louder pattern in the complaint channels was shipping and delivery friction, not blending.
